Russia
Inspired by images and descriptions of 18th and 19th century Russian peasant wear found when researching for the costume design of Anton Chekhov’s The Seagull, this contemporary women’s ensemble incorporates the shapes, textiles, surface ornamentations, colors, and style details of those historical garments.
The design was realized using both machine and hand techniques, as seen in the seven yards of three-inch cartridge pleating in the bodice’s back.
